LIMA, May 21 (UPI) -- Former Peruvian leader Alberto Fujimori has a precancerous growth on his mouth that may require an operation, his daughter says.
Keiko Fujimori said the 69-year-old former president of Peru has a small lesion like the one removed from his mouth in 1969, El Comercio reported Wednesday.
Fujimori, who currently is detained, is on trial for ordering death squads to kill rebel collaborators in the early 1990s.
The ex-Peruvian leader, who ran the South American nation from 1990 to 2000, fled the country in 2001 and remained in Japan until 2007 when he was detained in Chile while attempting to return to Peru. He was extradited back to Peru last September.
