NEW YORK, May 18 (UPI) -- A metal sheet plummeted from the 18th story of a New York building and landed where children were playing a Little League baseball game, officials said.

Tishman Construction, the general contractor working on the Goldman Sachs building, was slapped with five violations after the Saturday incident, including working beyond the scope of a variance and failing to protect the public and property, the New York Daily News reported.

It is reported the steel fell onto the baseball field from an outdoor work elevator.

No injuries were reported as a result of the falling 30-inch-square sheet of steel, and construction was shut down at the building site, the newspaper said.

"Today's incident is unacceptable. Development cannot come at the expense of workers and the public," Acting Buildings Commissioner Robert LiMandri said.

LiMandri said the metal served as a bridge for workers to walk back and forth between the building and a hoist.
