WASHINGTON, May 19 (UPI) -- Campaign finance records indicate most of the money raised by former Rep. Bob Barr's political action committee goes to administrative and operating costs.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution said Monday documents filed with the Federal Elections Commission by the Bob Barr Leadership Council concluded the group's biggest expenditures were paying for continued fundraising.
"It costs money to raise money," Barr told the newspaper.
The Barr fund has solicited donations by stating it had played pivotal roles in defeating liberal congressional candidates. However, the Journal-Constitution calculated outright campaign contributions in federal races amounted to about 3 cents for every dollar raised.
It was noted the organization has not solicited contributions for Barr himself and his ongoing campaign for the presidential nomination of the Libertarian Party.
