Have you ever been to Clawson's
Restaurant in downtown Beaufort? Well if you haven't, you need to
come! They have delicious lunch sandwiches like a grilled mahi sandwich
and a crab cake sandwich. For dinner you can choose a seafood platter
or a delicious seafood pasta dish. That's not all you can choose!
They serve non seafood dishes too! The first Clawson's building was
owned by Charles and Mary Clawson. The original Clawson building
was located on the water side of Front Street.
You'll be fascinated by the charm of
Clawson's historic building and collectable antiques. The first Clawson's
building was owned by Charles and Mary Clawson. Clawson's was originally
located on the water side of Front Street till a hurricane rendered it
inoperable. A new building was built in 1910-1912 where Clawson's
continues to stand today. During these early years Clawson's was
a grocery store and bakery. The bakery, being built first, is the
oldest brick building in Beaufort. The Backstreet Pub is now located
where the bakery once was. Clawson's Grocery was eventually purchased
by Charles and Mary and became home to a hat shop, a dress shop, a children's
clothing shop, and a piece goods shop. In 1977 Bill and Candi Rogers
purchased and renovated the building. They chose the original namesake
of it's owner's, the Clawson's, for the new restaurant they started.
The memorabilia displayed in the restaurant, and the building itself, preserve
the rich history of Beaufort's past. In 1989-1990 the building was
enlarged.
Today Clawson's has more than doubled
it's square footage to include a lounge, coffee shop, bar, and retail shop
where the former Fishtown Alley once stood. Come enjoy a wonderful
